In one of the most poignant and courageous statements in the history of U.S. civil disobedience, John Carlos and Tommie Smith each raise a fist as they accept their medals at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Yet another pair of black men who stood for this nation in world athletic competition, they are forever champions. Similar to the hundreds of thousands of black men whose blood spilled on behalf and in defense of this nation, they stood for justice. Australian silver medalist Peter Norman stands in the left forefront. Agree or not with their cause, let us all remember and behold. “A man who sands for nothing will fall for anything.” ~ Malcolm X
